RTO at waste processing company
Additional waste heat recovery from the flue gas of a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) is expected to result in a flue gas outlet temperature reduction from 200 to 76 °C and additional energy recovery of 740 kW.
Heat recovery from RTO
The customer, a waste processor, has the ambition to make their waste processing process more sustainable. One of the opportunities they identified is additional heat recovery from their RTO installation. A metal air preheater was already installed at the outlet of the RTO. Further heat recovery with an additional metal plate heat exchanger is not possible because of ammonium sulphate deposition that causes fouling and corrosion problems.
Study on how to recover more heat
HeatMatrix did further analysis on this thermal process for the customer. Further cooling of the flue gas through the acid dew point is possible with an additional polymer air preheater. This polymer air preheater handles the sulphuric acid formed while cooling the flue gas and enables additional heat recovery. Also the depositing ammonium sulphate can be cleaned off easily.
Additional energy recovery of 740kW
When the flue gas is cooled down to a temperature of 76 °C this will result in an additional energy recovery of 740 kW.
